About us

We love it ! We crave it ! And it’s now part of daily life…

Here is a bit about us and most of the questions we get when we tell our story…

Our Style of Travel

We are not heavy on planning. It’s a more generalist approach. We would come up with an idea of what region to visit. We list out a few interesting places and then, if we are happy, we would book the first accommodation. And then we hit the road.

From there we book as we go…

It gives us the flexibility to stay longer or leave earlier, and so on.

WARNING: The only time we overstep this is when there are holidays in the mix. Then we would book in advance.

Where it all started

The long story made short is that it started back in 2017/8 when I left my job for a one-year sabbatical and we started touring the world.

Now to cut the story short. Life happened when we came back in 2019 with a baby coming onboard and the international standstill we all experienced. So we settled a bit in Pretoria, getting used to city life.

Eventually

The city, the busy-ness, noise, traffic just got the better of us. With our son, whom at that stage was 3 years old, we threw caution to the wind, and made travel a lifestyle.

We bought a tent, packed up our house and jammed everything we could into a Cruiser and off we went.

In April 2023, we left stability, safety and a place to call home behind.

Now we live where the road takes us, seeing some of the most beautiful places Southern Africa offers.

The initial plan was to do it for a year and then see where we would end up and then decide from there…

BUT

What is travel without the element of surprise?

We did not even lift off yet and the first surprise hit.

I just took out the back seats of the car, no small feat by the way, when my wife said we will have to make room for another travel companion in November. Nice…

Yip, never a dull moment when you travel.

And that was just the start of our journey…

Who’s behind RhinoBerry Travel

Meet Carla, Carter and Cobus and, of course, the little princess which decided to hitchhike with us.

As a family, we like to explore and be out in nature.

My wife and I can both work remotely and we homeschool Carter while travelling. (more about education below)

We can both work remotely and is one factor we include in our decision making for destinations.  I invest into property and run a marketing agency. Carla is a kinderkinetisis and helps people to lose weight and specialises in childhood obesity.

Education

A frequent question we get is about what we do with Carter and if he goes to school.

Well…

Carla and myself take turns to shool Carter and we decided on a curriculum out of our own experiences with the eductiaon system.

We focus on math, language, memory, emotional intelligence, writing, and physical ability.

We feel that if he masters that he won’t have any problems going forward academically.

The first six years of a child’s life are important, and we think spending time with family and in nature is best for their development..

That’s about enough about us and most of the questions we get around a braai. Why not get in touch with us on one of our social channels and tell us what your next trip entails?
